INGALLS, JOHN JAMES. Born in Middleton, Massachusetts, 1833; died
in 1900. Mr. Ingalls was a well-known lawyer and journalist,
but became active in politics and served for many years in the
United States Senate. He is remembered for the sonnet, "Opportunity."
