PATIENCE

by: Robert Hugh Benson (1871-1914)

      I
waited for the Lord a little space.
So little! in whose sight as yesterday
Passes a thousand years: -- I cried for grace,
      Impatient of delay.
      II
He waited for me -- ah so long! For He
Sees in one single day a loss or gain
That bears a fruit through all eternity: --
      My soul, did He complain?
